Foundation Learning
We at Ton Pentre Infants believe that early childhood is a precious and magical time when children enjoy live learning experiences. The world is a place of great adventure waiting to be explored and life is one constant discovery. Children are eager to learn and it is our mission to ensure they have the opportunities to do this as 3-7 year olds should and that is through play and interesting enquiries. We provide purposeful play activities, both indoors and outdoors, and absorbing enquiries to enable this to happen.
Our aim is to create ambitious capable learners, enterprising creative contributors, ethical informed citizens and healthy confident individuals. Our Vision is "Happy Faces, Kind Hearts, Enquiring Minds".
PLAY IS THE CHILD'S WORK.
Through play children learn how to concentrate, to persevere, to try new things and to mix with other children.
Young children learn through first hand experiences, they learn by doing. The enabling adults in the class guide the children's play, whilst observing and ensuring that the necessary skills, knowledge and experiences are being introduced and developed. They ask meaningful questions and give praise and encouragement. Throughout Foundation Learning we have Enabling Adults, Effective Environments and Engaging Experiences, which help the process of learning take place.
The current play-based learning follows the New Curriculum for Wales 2022.
This is based around 6 Areas of Learning and Experience:
° Languages, Literacy and Communication Skills (including Welsh and other international languages)
° Mathematics and Numeracy
° Health and Wellbeing
° Expressive Arts
° Humanities
° Science and Technology
and 3 Cross-Curriculum Responsibilities of:
Literacy
Numeracy
Digital Competence
In addition to this Religion, Values and Ethics (RVE) as well as Relationships and Sexual Education (RSE) are taught, at an age appropriate level.
